Terms of Reference of the Institutional Audits Committee (IAC)
In terms of procedures outlined in the
Framework for Institutional Audits, all audit report must be circulated to
IAC members to check for style, tone, coherence, consistency and to ensure that the conclusions are supported by appropriate evidence, before the draft report is sent to the institution.
Once the institution has responded to the draft audit report, all amendments recommended by the institution pertaining to factual errors, omissions and discrepancies are incorporated. The report serves at the HEQC together with institutional response to the draft report. The final audit report is approved by the
HEQC and then sent to the institution concerned.
The Framework for Institutional Audits further provides for institutions that have been audited to submit an improvement plan, within five months of receipt of the final audit report. The IAC is responsible for analyzing the improvement plans submitted. A mid cycle progress report on the implementation of the approved improvement plan serves before the IAC which will take a decision to accept the progress report and conclude all audit related activities or to request the Directorate to verify some outstanding matters pertaining to how the institution has addressed the recommendations of the audit panel.
