Introduction
The Quality Systems Restructuring Project of the HEQC presented a workshop entitled 'Challenges in developing a quality ethos/culture in merged institutions in South Africa' at the Groenkloof Campus of the University of Pretoria on 12-13 August 2008. The workshop had three themes: demystifying the concept "quality ethos/culture"; the effects of and responses to the formal introduction of a quality agenda into an institution; and enhancing a quality ethos/culture in institutional areas.
The workshop was well attended by representatives of all merged institutions and historically disadvantaged institutions (HDIs), as well as by HEQC staff.
