Introduction

The final workshop of the HEQC's Quality Systems Restructuring Project (2005-2008) took place at the University of Zululand on 20-21 October 2008. At the workshop, merged institutions and historically disadvantaged institutions (HDIs) reported on the outcomes and impact of the project at their institutions, as well as the challenges that still remain.

The workshop was planned to coincide with the annual visit by Finnish experts for technical assistance and expertise exchange. The visitors from Finland were Senior Adviser Karl Holm, Finnish Higher Education Evaluation Council; Professor Pentti Kareoja, University of Art and Design, Helsinki; and Dr Pentti Rauhala, President of Laurea University of Applied Sciences.
