Developing a New Academic Organisational and Programme Structure in Merged HE Institutions, Pretoria, 18-20 Sep 2005

The HEQC co-hosted with the Department of Education (DoE) a workshop on Developing a New Academic Organisational and Programme Structure in Merged Higher Education Institutions at UNISA from 18-20 September 2005. Staff from a variety of merged institutions were invited to present case studies on the following aspects of the development of a new academic programme structure at their institutions:

  • Broad conceptual parameters.
  • Criteria for the programme review.
  • Operational planning; and data-sets.
  • Process for and conduct of the programme review.
  • Implications and perspectives (national and institutional).

Presenters were requested to rework their presentations as full-length articles for publication by the HEQC. The articles which have been received by the HEQC till the end of October 2006 were edited and are hereby published. It is hoped that publication of these articles will contribute towards a better understanding of the complex nature of the manifold issues involved in the development of a new academic programme structure in merged institutions.
