Ahmed Essop was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the Council on Higher Education in May 2010. Prior to joining the CHE he was an independent consultant and a Visiting Researcher at the University of the Witwatersrand School of Education. Between 1997 and 2005, Mr Essop was the Chief Director for Higher Education Planning and Co-ordination in the former Department of Education. He holds an Honours degree in Sociology from the University of Essex and a Masters in International Development Education from Stanford University.
