Judy Backhouse joined the CHE as Director: Advice and Monitoring in January 2009. She brings extensive experience in the higher education sector having lectured at the University of Durban-Westville, the University of the Witwatersrand, Pretoria University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, and at Monash South Africa where she held the position of Head of School of Information Technology.
Judy also spent fifteen years in the IT sector, working in a range of technical and management positions. She was Software Development Manager at Medscheme and General Manager, Information Technology at Telkom Directory Services.
Judy has an M.Sc. in Mathematics, an MBA in Technology Management and a PhD in Education, giving her a rare understanding of higher education from the perspective of many disciplines. Her research is into doctoral education in South Africa and she has published in the areas of international education and IT education. Her work in the Advice and Monitoring Directorate brings together her experience and interests in higher education, information systems and management. |
