Dr Jan Beukes was appointed as Chief Financial Officer of the Council on Higher Education (CHE) on 1 September 2006, following some months of acting in the position.
Dr Beukes completed most of his degrees with distinction. He received his Doctorate of Education from the University of South Africa in 1981.
He had a long history with the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC), as Executive Director of the Institute for Labour Economics Research, Executive Director of Corporate Communications, Acting CEO of the organisation for one year and, between 1992 and 2002, Executive Director of Support Services.
After retirement from the HSRC, Dr Beukes carried out a study for the National Advisory Council on Innovation (NACI) on Future Scenarios for the Science and Technology System of South Africa. He was also involved in a study on the assessment of demand for and supply of technical workers for some of South Africa's major industries.
Dr Beukes has received several awards including the HSRC's prestigious Strategic Management Leadership Award and an award for Exceptional Research Performance in the field of Labour Economics.
During his research career, he has written more that 40 research publications, mainly in the area of vocational guidance and labour studies. |
