CHE > Media and Publications > Accreditation and National Reviews > Three more MBA programmes are given full-accreditation status - Press Release, September 2004
September, 2004

Since the release of the results of the national MBA review in May this year, higher education institutions that were granted conditional accreditation status have been providing the HEQC with improvement plans in order to meet the conditions stipulated for each of them in their respective re-accreditation reports. New specialist and peer review panels have completed site visits to three institutions that had submitted improvement plans.

Taking into account the improvement plans and the reports on the site visits, the HEQC Board has granted full-accreditation status to the following MBA programmes:

  • MBA Programme: North West University
Full accreditation for the Potchefstroom site of delivery.
  • MBA Programme: Tshwane University of Technology
Full accreditation for the Pretoria site of delivery.
  • MBA Programme: Port Elizabeth Technikon
Full accreditation for the Port Elizabeth site of delivery.

This increas es the number of fully accredited MBA programmes from six to nine.

The HEQC has received improvement plans from the remaining 12 conditionally accredited programmes. The required site visits will be conducted when the institutions indicate to the HEQC their readiness for site visits to evaluate compliance with the conditions stipulated.

The CHE/HEQC report on "The State of the Provision of the MBA in South Africa" will be launched at a conference to be held on 9 November 2004 at the CSIR Convention Centre in Pretoria. The report analyses information from the entire MBA evaluation process, identifies strengths and weaknesses in MBA provision and points to areas for further research and investigation.
