Denyse Webbstock joined the CHE as Director of Programme Accreditation in January 2010. Previously she was the Director of Quality Promotion and Assurance at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (and the former University of Natal) since 1998, and before that was an evaluator in that university's Tertiary Education Studies Unit. She has participated in many national quality-related debates, projects and forums over the years, and gained experience in developing quality related processes at an institutional level. Her research interests relate to higher education more broadly, quality assurance issues, and institutional change.

Denyse's discipline background is in Political Science. She has studied at the former University of Natal and the University of Amsterdam, and holds a PhD in Policy Studies focusing on academic freedom and institutional autonomy in higher education in South Africa.
