⚠️ Urgent Alert: Phishing Email Circulating – Please Exercise Caution
To all our stakeholders,
We wish to bring to your immediate attention that a phishing email is currently circulating, falsely purporting to be from the Council on Higher Education (CHE). This fraudulent email attempts to deceive institutions into making payments to unauthorised banking details.
Please be advised that:
- The CHE does not make use of Gmail or any other public email service providers.
- Official correspondence from the CHE will only originate from the email ending with @che.ac.za.
- All legitimate payment instructions will come through formal, verified communication channels, and any request that appears suspicious should be treated with caution.
We strongly urge you to:
- Verify the sender’s email address before taking any action.
- Scrutinise all banking details and confirm their legitimacy using known contacts at the CHE or through official CHE documents.
- Report any suspicious emails to your IT department immediately.
If you have any doubts or queries regarding communication claiming to be from the CHE, please contact us directly at accreditation@che.ac.za before taking any further steps.
Thank you for your vigilance and continued cooperation.
